‘Welcome to Plathville’ spoilers reveal that Ethan said, history certainly wasn’t a big thing in the Plath household! It’s a little alarming that Kim, nor Barry, thought to educate their children on basic American History, like why the revolutionary war was fought, or what the declaration of independence even is!

Moriah didn’t even know who the founding fathers were, she just knew them as a group of people who signed something. Which is more than I can actually say for the rest of them. Now, what my real question is, is what did the Plath homeschooling curriculum look like?

‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers: So what did the Plath homeschooling curriculum look like?

And what is Kim’s excuse for her children not knowing a basic important thing that every American child should know? If I hear her say “Well, they didn’t do their schoolwork.” no, you know what? No! That’s not an excuse.

The reason I say this is because I, myself, was homeschooled. Now, granted my Mom only had one child, me, so she only had one person to prepare a curriculum for. However, if Kim had tried, there are resources that she could have used to help these kids learn basic American History, but it looked like she was more concerned about “the evils of this world” to quote Micah, than actually educating her children.

In order for a child to learn something, you have to sit down and actually engage with them and teach it to them. Just from observation, Kim seems to have a very hands-off, detached demeanor when it comes to her kids.

This could be because of how she grew up, it could be because of the trauma that she endured after the death of her son Joshua, which, honestly could change anyone. If she was different before this, then obviously she needs to go to therapy and address those issues.

I am hoping that when it comes to the younger Plaths, that she does indeed make them do their schoolwork and actually sits down and teaches them what they need to learn instead of relying on them to just read the book and learn blindly.

Some kids don’t learn that way, some kids learn by hearing it orally, some kids are more visual. Kim seems to think that all of her children fall into one seamless cookie cutter mold while that’s not the case. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the little Plaths. Stay tuned!!!
