That in the Plath family it is all about appearances and as long as it looks picture perfect that and everything looks okay from the outside that everything is thought to be okay.

I cannot imagine the pressure cooker that house is at times. 9 kids, and they’re all expected to be perfect, act perfect, do exactly as the family says and not act up and not kick up a fuss or have any sort of differing opinions whatsoever when it comes to Ma and Pa Plath’s stringent beliefs? Yike.

No wonder the kids want out after two decades, I must say after two decades of that I’d be fed up too. This explains why Moriah is so reluctant to open up, she literally does not know how.
When Ethan previously said that they weren’t given an emotional toolset to handle anything, he was not kidding. This makes me wonder just what on earth Kim and Barry were thinking.
What I don’t understand is their reluctance to express emotion, like any at all. Barry seems a little bit better about it than Kim but it makes me wonder if there’s just something way more wrong with Kim and Barry’s wiring than meets the eye.
I’ve never seen two people look so detached all the time. The only time I saw Barry come close to expressing emotion was last episode when he was hanging out with Micah and Isaac, other than that I’ve seen him express ‘goofy Dad vibes’ and ‘contempt’, actually, lots of contempt several times, but other than that they’re both very hard to read.
Do they ever let down that front? And what does that look like? Moriah is starting to let down that front, although to be honest I don’t think that she had very much of one to begin with.
We’ve seen Moriah express emotion, so I think she’s on her way to becoming a more whole person, but it looks like it’s taking her awhile to fully open up and be able to express herself. Here’s to Moriah’s new exploration of her emotions. Stay tuned!!!
