‘Welcome to Plathville’ spoilers indicate it’s 2020, the Plaths are finally seemingly expanding their circle, or at least letting the younger Plaths socialize with people who may or may not 100% share their beliefs. The people that they rented the farmhouse to, are a couple from Australia. Skylar, and Ross.
Ross travels a lot because of work, and they have deliberately taken their kids out of middle and high school because they said they did not want to expose them to a lot of what goes on, however, they seem to go about it in a different way than the Plaths do.
‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers: Comparing Kim and Barry to Skylar and Ross
Skylar and Ross have a concept called “World Schooling” where, while they’re traveling the world, the kids are, technically, always learning. This is an interesting concept and is entirely different than Kim and Barry’s concept of just keeping everyone on lockdown on the farm and only traveling when they did music conventions.
Which, they don’t really seem to do anymore, or at least we haven’t seen that since they started the show. Then again, lockdown, nobody’s going anywhere. Although, considering they’ve lost practically half the Plath family band, that’s probably another reason.
Skylar brought up an interesting point, she said that while they want to create a beautiful world for their children to live in, they also realize that if they shelter them too much, then the children will lose out on legitimately beautiful things that the world has to offer.
See, that’s the key that Kim and Barry seem to be missing – balance. It’s not wrong to want to homeschool your kids, it’s not wrong to want to provide them with a safe, loving home environment, it’s not even wrong to want them to grow up with a more traditional set of values, but you have to balance that out with actually living in the world.
That’s what the older Plath kids missed out on, much to their detriment. I sincerely hope with this new family’s influence, that some of the good things can rub off on Kim and Barry and the younger Plaths will be allowed to experience more of the world than their siblings, the good things at least, things can still be censored, but by now Kim and Barry must realize that they can’t shelter them forever. Fingers crossed. Stay tuned!!!
