‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers tells we thought that Lydia Plath was graduating into being an actual teenager, in a clip from the upcoming Welcome to Plathville episode, we get to see her fall back down the rabbit hole once more of being completely bent to her parents’ will.
Some might think that it’s so sweet, the Lydia would feel bad about betraying her parents’ trust, and it a way it is, but in so many ways this clip illustrates just how bound that Lydia is by her religious beliefs and how she’s taking life so seriously at such a young age. She has the same miserable air as a three time divorcee with thrice as many kids, not a carefree 17 year old!
‘Welcome to Plathville’: Lydia broke the Plath’s trust?
All because she decided to text her crush without telling her parents first. “I’m probably more disappointed in myself than they are.” I’m hoping that’s the case, here’s hoping that she’s just got herself worked up into a frenzy over nothing because if whatever Kim and Barry said to her inspired this kind of tearful, religious-tinged meltdown, then… that’s concerning.
Lydia said that whenever she feels misguided that she goes to the Holy Spirit – that in itself is not wrong – but the way she did it seemed way too emotional for someone who’s just 17. I’ve seen 30 year olds pray with less emotion.
Then in a scene directly out of Carrie, she begins to sing a hymn. Okay, so it’s not that uncommon, humming a hymn to yourself as you pray but it seemed a bit like she was giving the Holy Spirit a performance – not to say that her feelings were performative (after all she’s not Kim) but spiritually it seemed like she was screaming, “Mayday! Mayday!” at the Holy Spirit.
A few fans have pointed out and speculated that Lydia’s mental and emotional health may be a bit rocky, so far she seems okay but this latest clip was rather alarming, but perhaps to those of us who didn’t grow up with quite that level of belief, or maybe no religious beliefs at all, it just looks that way from the outside.
Maybe this is just the way Lydia communicates with God.. in that case. He seems to be listening because the clip ended with Lydia saying that it was clear to her now what she needed to do… but what is that?! Talk about a cliffhanger. Stay tuned!!!
