‘We Need to Talk About Cosby’ is a brand new docu-series, set to drop on Showtime on January 30. However, the series, exploring the dark side of the disgraced funny man, premiered at Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, and the man at the center of it all, Bill Cosby reacted via his team.

A rep for the man who was once known as being a television pioneer wrote as an ‘official response’: “Mr. Cosby has spent more than 50 years standing with the excluded; made it possible for some to be included; standing with the disenfranchised, and standing with those women and men who were denied respectful work… because of race and gender… within the expanses of the entertainment industries.”

The subject line of the response- that was given to Entertainment Weekly called the docuseries a PR Hack.

The exposé, directed by W. Kamau Bell chronicles Cosby’s career as a comedian and actor/producer and details his behavior onset of the hugely popular NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. The series also delves into his monstrous fall from grace after more than 60 women accused the now 84-year-old of crimes ranging from sexual harassment to sexual assault.

The statement from Cosby’s team continued on the defense, alleging that Cosby is a target for media and tabloids who have distorted and omitted truths to benefit themselves. The statement also pointed out that Cosby has never actually been found guilty of any of the charges pressed against him, now that his 2018 convicted of sexual assault which came with a 10-year sentence has been turned over and vacated by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

“Mr. Cosby vehemently denies all allegations waged against him,” the statement concludes. “Let’s talk about Bill Cosby. He wants our nation to be what it proclaims itself to be: a democracy.”

Bill has responded to the statement, claiming that we need to separate racism from the truth. He agrees America has a history of the white man tearing the black man down, but that it “doesn’t always mean that the Black man didn’t do something wrong.” He continued, “There are racist forces that are happy for Bill Cosby’s downfall, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t more than 60 women who have accused him of rape and sexual assault, and those aren’t credible accusations.”

We Need to Talk About Cosby premieres Jan. 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
