Intimate wear giant Victoria’s Secret is making good on its promise to change up its business model and diversify its lingerie models. Now 26-year-old Sofía Jirau is making history as the brand’s first-ever model with Down Syndrome.

“Thank you, Victoria’s Secret, for seeing me as a model who has #NoLimits” Jirau wrote on Instagram while posing in one of Victoria’s Secret new Love Cloud collection bras

Jirau, from Puerto Rico began working as a model in 2019 and made her debut at New York Fashion Week in 2020. Her new job with VS is another huge accomplishment for the beauty.

“One day I dreamed of it, I worked for it and today it’s a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret,” her caption read. “I am Victoria’s Secret’s first model with Down syndrome!”

“Inside and out, there are no limits.”

The Love Cloud Collection has just dropped with 18 different models including big names like Hailey Bieber, along with plus-sized models, models over the age of 40, a pregnant woman, transgender, and differently-abled models wearing the underwear.

The new inclusiveness is all part of the rebranding of Victoria’s Secret, a company that become a worldwide success after its inception in 1977, enjoying decades of being a top lingerie retailer in North America. By the late 20-teens, however, the brand and the impossible standards of beauty it promoted began to be seen as a dinosaur.

Hundreds of bricks and mortar stores closed after a year-after-year steady decline in sales and popularity, mostly due to the lack of evolution and deeply rooted misogyny within the company’s top execs.

Now Victoria’s Secret’s chief creative director, Raúl Martinez is hoping the Love Cloud Collection’s campaign and the company’s new inclusive rebrand and trajectory will bring shoppers back.

“Love Cloud Collection is a major moment in the brand’s evolution,” Martinez said in a statement. “From the cast of incredible women that bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit on set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret standard we are creating.”

It’s not only the Love Cloud Collection that is moving with the times. Remi Bader, a 26-year-old TikTok star and plus-sized model was recently named brand ambassador and size consultant for Victoria’s Secret collegiate line, PINK in a shared effort to further empower young adults and champion body positivity.

It looks like the dinosaur isn’t so extinct after all.

    Bravo, Victoria’s Secret, Bravo.
