‘Vanderpump Rules’ spoilers find fans were shocked when James and Raquel announced their break-up while filming the yet to be aired reunion episode.
Until now, fans had to guess what went wrong and who called the wedding off, only 6 months after James proposed in a very ‘extra’ and very expensive fashion.

Now, Raquel has opened up on co-star, Scheana Shay’s Scheananigans podcast about what led to the breakup and confirmed who was the dumper and who was the dumpee.
‘Vanderpump Rules’ Spoilers: More Details Emerge About What Led Up To Raquel Leviss And James Kennedy’s Shock Split
Raquel described the crumbling of the union as being “like a cumulation of things” but when Scheana pressed her further about the final nail in the coffin, Raquel admitted it came down to some good old-fashioned holiday season family drama.
James and Raquel spent Thanksgiving with Raquel’s family and she explained how, in true James fashion, a minor disagreement between James and Raquel’s father was completely blown out of proportion
This is a trend that viewers have seen from James again and again. And again
“He took [the disagreement] as a knock to his ego and reacted in a way my sister says was not acceptable,” Raquel explained. “And I agree, it wasn’t.”
Raquel had to take James back to the hotel they were staying in to calm him down and that’s when she had her “a-ha” moment. The 27-year-old reality star realized she was not able to live the rest of her life this way.
Raquel said she realized she’d been “making excuses for him” and that “part of my soul” was being taken away.
As she foresaw a future where she was alienated from her family by her husband, Raquel knew she would not be able to marry James. However, she was fearful to tell James how she was feeling, expecting an adverse reaction. She and her mother planned how Raquel would break the news.
She claimed her mother told her to “pretend like everything’s fine” until the timing was right. During this time she found herself “[putting] on an act … just to make sure that I was safe.”
This included spending some very awkward time at Disneyland with co-stars Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval.
Raquel finally told James how she was feeling as they watched the season of Vanderpump Rules (currently airing) together.
“It was like word vomit,” Raquel described. “I was like, ‘This is how I’ve been feeling and I can’t keep it in any longer because I’m not being an honest person.”
“I don’t appreciate the way that you treat other people; it’s not how I treat other people,” she told her soon-to-be ex, “And a piece of me dies inside every time you mistreat somebody. Truly, my heart isn’t in it anymore.”
James, surprisingly took the break-up calmly, after his pleas for a second chance fell on deaf ears. The exes then had to tell producers and Andy Cohen and Lisa Vanderpump the very next day, as that was the taping of the reunion.
The break-up has been far more amicable than what both Raquel and her mother feared with the pair “speaking occasionally” and still following each other on social media. While hoping to maintain a friendship with James, Raquel is now living her best life.
