It’s been a few months since a lot of us have gotten to go to the movie theater to see a film. I last went to a theater in February to see ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ and the family is already missing the big theater experience. It’s not just going to watch a movie, it’s the fun of getting theater popcorn and picking your seat in front of the enormous screen and booming audio.
However, with the spread of COVID-19, theaters have closed their doors and everyone is at home streaming their entertainment. Netflix, Hulu, HBO have all seen major booms and video on demand has been getting more exclusive.
According to a post from IGN on Instagram, they shared the news of the new deal. You can see the post below with the following caption,
“After this 17-day window is up, films have the option to be distributed via video-on-demand services to make it more accessible to viewers staying at home to avoid COVID-19.”
Universal & AMC Theaters Have A New Deal For VOD Releases
New releases will go from 90 days to 17 before they can release to digital video on demand in your home. It says this is because of COVID-19, so it’ll be interesting to see how long it lasts after we are through this virus. Will it stay or will people go back to the theater soon after?
