Tua Tagovalioa recently confessed that he considered retiring from the NFL because of the numerous concussions he experienced last season… but couldn’t bring himself to do so.
The Dolphins quarterback, who missed many games last season due to head problems, told reporters Wednesday that the concussion that terminated his season in December actually caused him to consider his future.
He continued to say that he always knew what he wanted to do when he was growing up, “I always dreamed of growing, playing as long as I could to where my son knew exactly what he was watching his dad do. It’s my health. It’s my body. I feel like this is what’s best for me and my family. I love the game of football.”
In September, against the Bills, Tagovailoa, 25, appeared to sustain his first head injury of the campaign. However, a few days later, against the Bengals, he sustained a severe concussion.

The situation in Cincinnati was terrifying; he fell unconscious after banging his head on the ground while being tackled and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher. The following two weeks saw him out of play, but he made a comeback for the Dolphins’ Week 7 game against the Steelers.
Later, against the Packers on Christmas, Tagovailoa sustained a second concussion, causing him to miss the team’s last two contests. He was adamantly pushed to retire by certain experts on head injuries, including Dr. Bennet Omalu.
Tua, however, was adamant on Wednesday that it just would not happen at this time and revealed that he is currently enrolled in jiu-jitsu training to ensure that he learns how to fall properly.
Tua said that he has also been consulting with neurologists, who have assured the former University of Alabama star that CTE is not a problem given his circumstances.
