Just recently, a tragic incident occurred and friends and family are still trying to wrap their heads around it all. A 25-year-old woman, Regan Noelle Gibbs was found dead in her apartment. Now it looks as if her husband is being charged with her murder.
True Crime: The Incident
Gibbs played as the goalie for the University of Kansas. She was found critically injured at her apartment and was dead when first responders arrived. Her injuries were unclear when they arrived. Her husband, 26-year-old, Chad Joseph Marek was at the scene and that is where he was arrested. He is now being charged with first-degree murder. The Kansas City Star newspaper is considering that domestic violence may have been the cause of her death.
True Crime: Kansas University Soccer Player Murdered and Husband Has Been Charged
This death has really crushed the KU soccer team and the head coach, Mark Francis, made a statement about their loss. He told the press, “Our soccer program is heartbroken to hear about the tragic loss of Regan. She was a tremendous teammate and young woman, and touched so many during her time at Kansas. Regan will always be remembered for the impact she had both on and off the field. We share out condolences to her family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.”
Gibbs’ friends and family have set up a GoFund to help cover the funeral cots. On the site, they wrote, “Regan was only 25, a beautiful, kindhearted girl who loved Jesus and people. She had a big heart for the homeless and hoped to go back to school to become a Physicians Asssitant to do mission work. She had a precious soul and she was loved by everyone who knew her. She is leaving behind her mom and four younger sisters who are heartbroken by this tragic loss.”
Marek is being held on $1 million bond and he has not entered a plea as of yet. He will have another court appearance on May 24 and hopefully, this is where he will be sentenced. There has not been a statement made yet from his legal team. None of his family or friends has made a statement either.
