After Ryan Mallett‘s untimely death on Tuesday, Tom Brady issued an emotional letter to the former quarterback’s family, saying, “We lost a great man.”
The remark was uploaded to the Patriots legend’s Instagram page, along with the words “Thank you for everything Ryan.” The two were colleagues in New England from 2011 to 2013, where Mallett played for the team. “Praying for the Mallett family and all their loved ones tonight.”

Mallett was among a group of swimmers who had been “struggling to make their way back to shore” since entering the ocean at around 2:12 PM, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
