‘Welcome to Plathville’ spoilers finds that how Kim and Barry sleep at night, knowing their grown and almost grown children are out there in the world operating on ‘childlike innocence’ and they don’t seem to care that that is not doing them any favors.

The world these days is not a kind world. Kids that display the naivete of the Plath kids worry me, because they don’t know how the actualy world works. The good thing is about the older kids, Ethan, Micah, and Moriah, the ones who have broken free, they have a willingness to learn, and in Micah’s case he seems to have adjusted pretty quickly but I’ll attribute that to there being a brain somewhere underneath all that beefcake and not to anything his parents tried to teach him.

For instance, Micah, didn’t know what pillow talk was, a fairly innocent term, but a term that Kim and Barry probably found scandalous. A simple explanation that would not have interfered with their beliefs in any way would have been, “Pillow talk is a conversation between a husband and wife that they have as they’re going to sleep at night.” which wouldn’t have been a lie, but it also would not have touched upon the “sex” part which seems to be something that Kim and Barry are terrified of their kids ever finding out about.

I mean, the kids grew up on a farm and you had nine of them, seems to me that the birds and the bees talk would have been inevitable at some point, but not to the Plaths.

The reason why I say this is because Ethan Plath himself said that he didn’t know that women got periods until he started dating one. I’m sorry but that was an egregious crime against Ethan and his wife because every child deserves to get The Talk in a comprehensive way from their Mom and Dad.

As parents, we owe them that. Children grow up, children get married, they do not stay on the farm all of their life. Is that what these two expected? Because if so, that is unrealistic and quite honestly infuriating.

I get angry for the older Plath kids because I myself was homeschooled and know that it can be a freeing experience. My own Mother made sure that I had every advantage, both academic, and social. I was not shut away from the world, I was not forced into some role of biblical submission to please my future spouse.

I was allowed to explore academic options and pursuits that would have normally not been available to me in public school because where I lived there was just not many things availble aside from core curriculum anything. Whereas the Plath kids were put in a bubble, a biblical shrouded bubble that while it maybe didn’t hurt them in the long run, it certainly didn’t help them. It doesn’t have to be this way, folks. Stay tuned!!!
