Ethan Plath dropped a potential truth bomb in one of his confessionals on the most recent episode of Welcome to Plathville when he said that he holds a grudge against both his Mom and Olivia! But does that mean that he feels trapped within his marriage? He didn’t feel too trapped to separate from Olivia the first time, and it looks like while he certainly doesn’t want to go down that road, he wouldn’t be opposed to taking it again if Olivia pushed his buttons enough.
He told Micah and Isaac that at this point in his life if there is any more drama he’s “just going to walk” which doesn’t really bode well for his and Olivia’s marriage, because Olivia, it’s not that she likes drama, no one does, but rather she tends to attract it.
Does Ethan Plath resent his wife?
Olivia is on a deconstruction journey, and she needs someone who is going to be a willing participant and be part of that journey with her. Ethan is simply not that person, he is a small town guy and will likely remain a small town guy for the rest of his life. He just doesn’t seem to have big city dreams like Olivia does.
Ethan wanted the simple life, he wanted a woman who was content to settle down with him and raise babies and just be a part of the white picket fence family dream that his own parents concocted back in the 90’s… a dream that was sadly not reality by the time they got around to it.
Next week’s episode promises some of that drama that Ethan is so desperately trying to avoid because he went out and bought a new motorcycle without Olivia informing Olivia and she’s going to flip out about that, we just know it. However from the previews it looks like Ethan is done caring, he’s too affected by the news of Mom and Dad’s divorce right now to give a crap about his own marriage.
Perhaps, in his own mind, Ethan had his parents’ marriage on a pedastal, a goal to aspire to, but now that that pedastal has been broken and everything’s been exposed for what it really is… his world is crumbling. The life he thought he knew and the life that he wanted are dying pretty fast, it’s a scary time for Ethan Plath. We’ll see how well he handles that next week. Stay tuned!!!
