TLC ‘Doubling Down with the Derricos’ spoilers indicate that Mama and Papa Derrico took it upon themselves to ask Darian about what Gigi brought up with them last week. Gigi said that she thought that Darian should be hanging out with her peers a bit more than her family and siblings.
When Darian was asked about it by her Mom and Dad, she didn’t deny it, rather she just said that while being a big sister is fun and that she loves it, she doesn’t really have anyone in the household that she can relate to because everyone is younger than her. She said that she never really talks to anyone her age, she just kind of keeps to herself and both Karen and Deon said that this was not good and they didn’t want Darian to keep to herself all the time.

Thing is, that was never in the plan for Darian. She has been looking at summer sleep-away art camps. and one has a course in video editing that she wants to take. I think both Karen and Deon was surprised at the initiative that Darian has taken in looking up these camps, “You want to go to camp so that you can get away?” they asked, but I think they ultimately realize that Darian just wants to be among her peers, she’s not actually trying to flee from them.
The thing is, the camp that she wants to attend is in Michigan and Karen and Deon are in California. Darian says she needs this time away from them, which shocked both Mom and Dad initially, but they didn’t exactly say no.
They said that right now, the decision to send her to camp has to be an informed one. They need to look into this camp more before they agree to send her all the way across the country by herself. I agree with them, most parents are eager to shed their teenagers for a few weeks out of the year, but these days you can never be too careful.
After seeing the Paris Hilton documentary about certain kinds of camps, I agree with the Derricos, do all your research before sending your child away. Do not let them out of your sight unless you’ve done your due dillgence. I suspect that Karen and Deon will make the right decision though, whatever that may be. Stay tuned!!!
