TLC ’90 Day Fiancé’ spoilers: ‘Before The 90 Days’ finds that whenever we travel to a different country, most of us expect a little culture shock, especially when traveling to non-westernized nations. So when Baby Girl Lisa Hamme of ‘Before the 90 days’ arrived in Nigeria, she was expecting an elaborate spread like one would expect from say, a rapper or anyone in the westernized music industry. What she did not realize was that in Nigeria, they have a completely different way of life than anyone in the US does. In Nigeria it’s perfectly okay, even considered normal, to share a room with two other roommates of the same sex and to shower from a bucket.
Some of you are probably staring at the screen in disbelief, very similar to the reaction that Baby Girl Lisa had when Usman Umar pointed out the bucket where he showered from every day. He touted it like it was some sort of invigorating experience but Lisa was quick to tell him that it was not going to be adequate for an American girl like her. I can’t say I exactly fault her there, because she isn’t used to the climate and isn’t used to this way of life and is definitely used to a different standard of living than say, anyone in Kaduna. With a slightly judgemental look, she cast her eyes downward before she said, “Thank God we’re staying in a hotel.”

What amazes me is, in two years this kind of discussion never came up between those two. I could see this if Lisa were say, a couple of decades younger. But as someone who has read history books and been on this earth for 52 years, Lisa acts awfully naive about the way that things happen in an African country. Has she never watched a documentary? Was her entire basis for the kind of lifestyle she would live in Nigeria based on Usman’s videos? Did she not realize that music videos are notoriously fake? Even the best shot ones? Oy.
I’ve got a little bit of judgment about Lisa’s expectations because it looks like Lisa should have done just a tiny bit of research before going to Nigeria. Also, if Ed can go all the way to the Philippines and not look down upon Rose for her standard of living (which arguably the same) then just what is Lisa’s problem? Ed has been with Rose way less time and he judges her way less for her way of living than Lisa is judging Usman. It’s a bit irritating – what did you two discuss before you bounced over to Nigeria?! None of this ever came up, really? I find this hard to believe. What will happen with those two? Stay tuned!!!
