Hey all you cool cats and kittens…we’ve got news about the second season of Tiger King— straight from the big cat’s mouth.

It’s hard to believe it has been almost a year since Netflix released Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, mainly because that means we’ve been living with this pandemic for almost a full year.  The fact that the world collectively became housebound as Tiger King dropped on the streaming platform was as coincidental (and lucrative) as how the whole docuseries came about.

‘Tiger King 2’ Will Be Coming To Netflix, But WITHOUT One Of Its Big Stars

Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, creators of Tiger King had originally planned to make a documentary about exotic animals being kept as house pets. They, and we, sure are glad they shifted their focus to big cats, and on larger than life Joe Exotic and his rival- “that b!t@h Carole Baskin”.

“We thought it would be much more issue-oriented,” Chaiklin has been quoted as saying. “We had no idea that it would take the twists and turns that it would end up taking.”

No one would have been able to see which direction(s) the stranger-than-fiction docuseries would go, but in a year as bizarre as 2020, it fit into our lives as easily as we fit into our stretchy pants (well, for the first few months, anyway).

It’s no wonder that a series–where a woman has her arm bitten off by a tiger (pretty much on camera) is a mere subplot–would be so wildly successful (again, our daily commute from bed to couch surely helped with the sheer volume of viewers), so much so that it has spawned a sequel.

But one star has respectfully declined to be a part of it.

Carole Baskin, a.k.a. possible husband murderer a.k.a. Joe Exotic’s arch-nemesis, a.k.a. Tiger King villainess revealed to Radio Times that turning down Tiger King creators, Goode and Chaiklin was not a hard decision.

It’s no secret Baskin was not a fan of how she was portrayed in the initial docuseries, especially when it came to the suspicions surrounding the disappearance of her first husband, Don Lewis, and how she treats the animals and volunteers at her Florida big cat sanctuary.

Baskin had felt “so misled” and “betrayed” by production, reporting that she was led to believe the motive behind the series was to raise awareness for big cats and not the “freak show they produced.” Baskins says she told all those involved in the Tiger King production to “lose her number.”

However, it was previously reported in Variety that Carole and current (alive) husband Howard Baskin have landed a spin-off of their own which “exposes those who engage in animal cruelty.” Perhaps the conflict of interest had something to do with Baskin, who had a short-lived stint on Dancing with the Stars after Tiger King shot her to stardom, not cashing in for the second installment of the most bat-shit crazy thing we’ve ever seen on our television screens.

Baskin or not, I say Bring. It. On!
