‘The Young and the Restless’ spoilers suggest that the storyline of Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) and Ian Ward (Ray Wise) jumped the shark a long time ago, but it’s still going on.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Camryn Grimes Is Being Wasted On This Story
The story lacks both substance and logic. It took forever to find out the secret that Mariah was hiding. The cult plot is repetitive, and Camryn Grimes is simply too good an actress to be wasted on it.
Ray Wise is good at being a villain, but we’ve seen this before. Plus, there isn’t much of a connection between Mariah killing some random old pervert she met while at a bar during a business trip.
Not to mention, those flashbacks of them drinking together and laughing were beyond disturbing. All that build-up, and the story was suddenly dropped for months anyway.
It’s been months, and we still don’t really have the whole story. Josh Griffith wants to have all these evil, villainous characters with big mysteries attached to them, but these stories never deliver and lack impact.
Grimes is a wonderful actress, but since the show wants to pair Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) and Daniel Romalotti Jr. (Michael Grazadei), they don’t seem to know what to do with Mariah.
We haven’t seen Mariah around her family at all lately, either. Grimes is so good opposite her on-screen mom, Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), but they haven’t shared a scene together in months.
There have been a lot of dark, gloomy storylines on the show, and Mariah’s story with Ian is incredibly creepy and weird. She’s isolating and crying a lot and listening to the advice of a dead sociopath.

We also know she’s hallucinating, and Mariah did a real disservice to herself by not getting the help she needs. She’s obviously suffering from severe trauma and mental health issues.
Right now, her family is involved in the Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) story, which has also missed the mark. Howarth is another example of an actor whose talent is being wasted on the show.
Mariah is an integral character to the show, but we rarely see her interact with anyone but Ian Ward. Wise had a good screen presence, but why did Ian need to come back?
Watching Mariah break down and tear up a picture of Tessa and their daughter at Ian’s insistence wasn’t exactly entertainment. The cult story is too dark and depressing, and it should have been over a long time ago.
Mariah is supposed to be written as a strong woman, but this story doesn’t do her justice. She was over Ian and the New World cult.
We didn’t even get a proper breakup between Tessa and Mariah. “Teriah” has a strong fanbase, and many fans are disappointed that the writers pulled them apart without so much as a real conversation.
Grimes is never given the material she deserves, and Y&R has an overall fabulous ensemble cast, but the writers don’t utilize their talents the way they should.
Let’s get Mariah out of that cheap motel room and bring her back to the forefront, and give Grimes a story worthy of her and her brilliance.
