‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers suggest that Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis Summers, and Roger Howarth, who plays Matt Clark aka Mitch Bacall, need to share scenes before Howarth exits Y&R.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Stafford and Howarth Have Engaging On-Screen Chemistry
Fans of Y&R who also watch General Hospital know that Stafford and Howarth played characters who were romantically involved on GH.
Stafford played the first Nina Reeves, who Cynthia Watros now plays. Howarth played Franco Baldwin, who was sadly killed off the show.
Their on-screen chemistry was significant, and they meshed so well that we can’t imagine Howarth leaving without them sharing scenes.
Fans know that Phyllis stole AI software from Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) and gave it to Victor Newman (Eric Braden). Cane had known all along that Phyllis was the thief, but she vehemently denied her betrayal until recently.
We can imagine Matt forcing Phyllis to use the AI program to destroy Victor and his companies or something along those lines.
Victor and Phyllis were previously entangled in a deal in which Phyllis gave Victor the program in exchange for his handing Jabot over to her. Based on Phyllis’s close interactions with Victor and Matt, Phyllis may cross paths with them.
Matt could pull Phyllis into his scheme to hurt the Newmans. Matt could use the AI program to blackmail Victor into returning the stolen fortune.
Victor used the AI software to cripple Matt’s business. We know that if Matt learned that Phyllis, a computer expert, was involved, he might take advantage of the situation. Phyllis is infamous for her hacking skills. Matt could coerce her into doing his bidding.

However, Phyllis had already made a deal with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson). She wants Billy to give her daughter, Summer Newman (Allson Lanier), complete control of Marchetti, which is part of the Abbott family company, Jabot.
In exchange? Phyllis must steal back the AI program from Victor. Sounds easy enough. If Matt somehow overhears about Phyllis’s mission, he could definitely rope her into his evil plan and get her to steal the program for him, not the Abbotts.
Matt wants to destroy the Newmans, and he could even get Phyllis to eviscerate the Newmans’ family companies. Regardless, Matt will stop at nothing to get his revenge.
We know Matt isn’t above threatening Phyllis’s children or grandchildren to get his way. Phyllis is fiercely protective of her family and would never risk Matt targeting them.
He could even hold Phyllis at gunpoint to convince her that hacking into the AI software to ruin the Newmans is in her best interests.
Phyllis knows who Matt is based on updates from her best frenemy, Sharon Newman (Sharon Case). She would be smart enough to figure out that Matt would kill her if she refused to play ball.
It would be interesting to watch Stafford and Howard together again.
They are two charismatic powerhouse actors who share a special connection, and we would love Y&R to write their characters into scenes together.
