‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers suggest that Hunter King, who was the first young adult actress to play a SORAS’d Summer Newman on the soap, needs to reprise the role she made so popular.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: There Was Potential For A Skyle Reunion
King portrayed Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers’s (Michelle Stafford) daughter from 2012 to 2016 and then again from 2018 to 2022.
Allison Lanier picked up where she left off the same year and shocked the soap world when she exited from Y&R in May of this year.
Summer is an integral character on Y&R, and she’s necessary to complete the canvas. Before Lanier decided to leave the show, it seemed like the sudser was moving toward a Summer, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), and Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) love triangle.
There was an opportunity for a Skyle reunion, as so much rich history exists between Kyle and Summer. Hunter King played the role of Summer much differently than Allison Lanier.
King’s Summer seemed more relatable and likeable, and while there is no denying that Lanier is a very talented actress, many fans thought Lanier’s portrayal painted Summer too much like her mother, Phyllis, which made her more conniving and less convincing as a heroine.
King’s Summer also had mind-blowing chemistry with Mealor’s Kyle. It was more natural and believable for them to be a couple. She was a more plausible fit for Kyle.
To Lanier’s credit, she brought a more mature version of Summer to the table, which some viewers found refreshing. She had some big shoes to fill, and she made the role her own.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Summer’s Trip To Italy Can’t Last Forever
Summer’s absence is explained by her company, Marchetti, being in trouble. Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) seemingly give up their dream jobs to work with their respective boyfriends.
Summer took off for Milan, Italy, to find replacements for her two former employees. Her trip to recruit new hires was only meant to be a temporary solution.
It doesn’t seem realistic to have Summer gone from Genoa City for so long, unless she becomes serious with the new guy Phyllis mentioned to Nick that Summer has been hanging around with.
Besides, Summer wouldn’t abandon Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell) indefinitely. Her trip to Italy can’t last forever. Summer belongs with her family in Genoa City.
Our preference would be for Y&R to bring Hunter King back to play Summer. However, we have a few ideas if she’s unavailable to return.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Other Soap Actresses Who Could Play Summer
Chloe Lanier, who spiced up General Hospital as nutty Nelle Benson from 2016 to 2020. Lanier could bring an element of naughtiness to Summer to further resemble her mother. She would bring a nuance to the role that would take Summer to the next level.
Another GH graduate, Kristen Alderson, who was the first Kiki Jerome on the show, could step into the role of Summer.
As it turns out, Alderson told Soap Opera Digest in 2022 that she auditioned to play Summer when Hunter King left, but obviously didn’t get the part.
Last but not least, Emme Rylan. She’s no stranger to Y&R as she previously played Abby Newman. She was also the second Lulu Spencer on GH.
Rylan was very disappointed about not being asked to return to GH as the soap opted to hire Alexa Havins Breuning as Lulu.
Rylan would add a touch of warmth to Summer and would no doubt be welcome. Whatever the case, Summer is desperately needed on Y&R and needs to come home ASAP!
