‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers document that seeking redemption means doing the work. But paying lip service to reforming yourself while continuing to pursue other’s destruction is a soap recipe for earned misery.
Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) needs a better work ethic, which is a short-form answer to his inability to sustain personal success. Any doubters should look to his estranged wife, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), and son, Devon Hamilton Winters (Bryton James).
Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) compares herself to the mythical Phoenix. But her past rise from the ashes was followed by a faked death. That self-cremation created incalculable damage.
‘Young And The Restless’ Spoilers – Contrast To Jeremy Stark Considered
Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) was a criminal. But unlike Tucker, Jeremy intended to kill Phyllis.
Her ability to reverse the tables and act in self-defense allowed Phyllis’ fake death not to become an actual demise. So, based on that plot point alone, Tucker is only partially comparable to Jeremy.
Yet, both characters are users. Tucker, like Jeremy, sees life as a transaction. Both guys used Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) for their purposes. Phyllis is also seen in that vein.
‘Young And The Restless’ Spoilers – Phyllis Summers Can’t Be Trusted
If Tucker believes that pairing with Phyllis in business or on a personal basis is wise, then he is a fool. But St. John’s character has put himself into a position where limited options exist.
He lost Ashley and then began telling Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) that he was her perfect romantic match. While Audra sports a tough persona, she is lonely and clearly affected by Tucker’s charm.
Phyllis is light years ahead of Audra and can be viciously resilient in a vulnerable space. If Tucker believes he can use Phyllis, his end is likely nearer than he thinks.
‘Young And The Restless’ Spoilers – Tucker McCall Better Watch His Back
So many people are gunning for Tucker’s downfall as the new year arrives. Being alienated from Devon and Dominic Newman Abbott Winters Chancellor (Rainn and River Ware) stings hard.
There is the potential of some progress based on Ashley possibly mischaracterizing their honeymoon blowup. It seems she may have exaggerated his reaction in her mind, with a link to her past mental health problems.
Tucker’s immaturity makes him unable to achieve a sound and sustainable life. Phyllis shares similar personal dysfunction. The pairing of these two particular characters reflects a last-resort calculation on both parts. It also reflects classic soap on Y&R.
