‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers find that for a lot of people, it might be hard to realize that Kyle Abbott is a father, seeing how he still needs a lot of guidance in his life himself.
But according to his portrayer, The Young and the Restless star Michael Mealor, this is a storyline that he absolutely loves, as it gives him an opportunity to show everyone a different side to his character. And it’s one that is going to surprise viewers. Here’s what he has to say.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Michael admitted that this is a great way for Kyle to open a new chapter – a mature chapter – in his life.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Michael Mealor Opens Up About Kyle Abbott’s New Journey To Fatherhood
Speaking about his character’s new fatherhood storyline, he said, “I think the writers have done a great job with Kyle as far as the stories they’ve given me since I’ve been on the show. However, they’ve always toed this line of ‘Is he an adult or is he not?’, and it seems that has been confusing at times, but I feel that we’ve finally made it on the other side of that hurdle of bringing Kyle into adulthood. I do consider this as the first mature story for him, which is really awesome.”
Michael also said that this storyline has made him rethink his performance as Kyle.
He explained, “A lot of the storylines in the past have been arguments and misunderstandings that have led to Kyle coming from a place of selfishness, which turns into a whiny kind of response. So now I have to consider another approach because there’s a child involved. How is Kyle going to handle this? He can’t be a jerk because he has to think about other people outside of himself for the first time in a long time. Now, he’s coming at this from a man’s perspective.”
The actor also said that when it comes to Kyle’s past, his chickens have come to roost! Michael added, “t’s really about Kyle coming to terms with who he was when he was so immature and only thinking about himself. What he’s struggling with right now is, ‘What kind of man does this make me?’ It’s an interesting dilemma for him.”
