‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) newcomer Jacob Aaron Gaines opens up about playing the late Kristoff St. Johns’ (Neil Winters) son Moses, who suddenly appears in Genoa City one year after his father’s death. Here’s what he has to say.
In a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, the handsome actor says that while he was familiar with the soap opera genre, he did follow the advice of his management team before he tried out for the role of Moses.
“They said, ‘It’s a really great part, you should submit for it,’” he recalls. “I actually waited a couple of days before I did anything about it because I had other school stuff coming up. When I did read about Moses, I actually saw me because he seemed to be a nice and humble kid, really driven and motivated.”

Fortunately for the young talented actor, it didn’t take very long for him to find out that he was offered the role. The moment that he turned up back stage at Y&R studios, he was lucky enough to meet some great co-stars who would take him under his wing, including Bryton James, who plays his on-screen brother, Devon Hamilton.
“He’s been really great,” Jacob said of Devon, adding, “He said I remind him of when he was my age, so he’s already telling me to have protein shakes in the morning and showing me workout routines. I’m following those guidelines so I can get where he’s at.”
Jacob also said that he was mighty impressed with the rest of his on-screen television family. “I met Christel [Khalil, Lily] briefly in the hall and she gave me her number, so hopefully we’ll have a Winters family gathering very soon,” he reports. “And I love Sean [Dominic, Nate]. He’s probably the funniest guy I’ve ever met. Every time I see him, he doesn’t even need to say anything and I crack a smile from ear to ear.”
