Netflix’s “The Irishman” which is the rave of the moment surprises us as it attracted about 2.6 million viewers on its Netflix premiere which took place on November 27, as claimed by new figures that was released by Nielsen. Nielsen only deals with U.S audience. Netflix executives have been rather reserved about the figures the new film has made through its limited through and moved onto the streaming giant. The Irishman has won early awards, earning top honors from the New York Critics this week. On Thursday, Netflix film executive, Scott Stuber, said at a Variety hosted conference, “is on [our] way to being happy with the movie,” replying to the question asked about the number of views they have had.

According to Nielsen, The Irishman was able to gather 13.2 million viewers after 5 days of its streaming on Netflix. The movie opened in theatrically on the first day of November following its world premiere in September at the New York Film Festival. The Irishman has been shunned by Regal, AMC, and Cinemark after Netflix refused to abide by traditional windows. On the third day, its streaming viewership peaked when it shot up to 3.1 million viewers. Saturday’s viewership was also great at 2.8 million.

Despite the fact that fans of the movie have ranted o social media about its hefty running time of 210 minutes and have suggested that the movie be broken into different parts so it can be enjoyed, Nielsen numbers reports that a large number of Netflix viewers who watched the film did in one sitting. On the premiere day of The Irishman, 751,000 viewers saw the movie in its entirety, which was around 18% of the total number of people sampling it. Also, on Friday, November 29, 930,000 people watched the movie all at once.
The 18% level puts The Irishman on equivalence with Bird Box a year ago and it far exceeds the full-film level of El Camino early in 2019, which was able to reach just 11%. El Camino and Bird Box run for about two hours.The Irishman started streaming on Netflix on November, 27, 2019 and has so far received positive reviews despite its hefty running time of 210 minutes. It has received praises for Scorsese’s direction and the performances of Pacino, De Niro, and Pesci.
