‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ (B&B) spoilers has welcomed legacy character, Dr. Taylor Hayes back to Los Angeles, however, she looks a little different from the last time audiences saw her.
That’s because Krista Allen has taken over the role from Hunter Tylo and, in an impressive feat, has already managed to win over audiences with her portrayal of everyone’s favorite psychiatrist.
Though it’s a steep hill for any actor to step into a legacy character’s role, it’s not the first time Allen has done so- taking over the role of Days of Our Lives’ Billie Reed from Lisa Rinna. However, Allen has faced much harder in her life than being accepted by audiences.
‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Newest Star, Krista Allen (Dr. Taylor Hayes) Opens Up About Her Cancer Diagnosis
Not long after starring in Baywatch Hawaii in the early 2000’s, Allen noticed a growth on the left side of her nose. When she went to get it diagnosed, it was the worst result possible- skin cancer. And it was aggressive.
“I had to get a Mohs surgery,” Allen explained, “and they had to take, I think it was 16 layers down to dig out.”
She went on to tell Soap Opera Digest that as a result of the deep cancer removal, surgeons had to then perform reconstructive surgery, taking a part of her cheek and sewing it back to her nose.
“It was very scary,” Allen revealed, “I thought my acting career was over.”
Of course, it’s evident Allen healed well, but she did take some time away from being in front of the camera- becoming a comedy writer and stand-up! The new Dr. Hayes portrayer is also the host of award winning comedic self-help podcast- I’m Fine with Krista Allen.
But of course, Allen’s love for acting didn’t keep her away from screens for too long. Securing the role of Taylor on the CBS sudser, however, required a little more than just Allen proving her acting chops.
When getting the call for the B&B audition, Allen had very short hair. Successfully scoring the Billie Reed role with a similar hair cut as Lisa Rinna’s, Allen figured she would do her best to resemble Hunter Tylo.
“I ordered a wig off of Amazon. It came the next day, and I cut it myself as best I could to make it look like Taylor,” Allen explained. “I went through YouTube tutorials learning how to cut curtain bangs, and I had the best time just trying to lock in the look of Taylor as best I could.”
Not only did the tactic work, fans are beginning to wonder if the B&B hair department chose to continue using the same wig. Though fans have instantly taken to Allen in the Taylor role, the very bad wig she is sporting is not receiving ANY love.
Wig aside, we are all happy to see Taylor back in L.A. and expect to see Tridge give Bridge a run for its money any day now. Moreover, we’re happy to report that Allen has been cancer-free ever since her life-saving surgery.
Allen’s last word on the subject of her cancer battle: “Wear that damn sunscreen. It’s so important.”
Watch Allen’s portrayal of Taylor on The Bold, weekdays on CBS.
