‘The Bachelorette’ spoilers find that on the new season, Tayshia Adams has heard it all. Last week was full of surprises as these men opened up to her like no other. She was shocked, surprised, and concerned about all of them in different ways.
There is one though, that really did shock her. Ben Smith, an Army veteran, opened up to her about his past and in that past is an eating disorder.

The group date featured all of the men and Adams exploring their past and their feelings. As the date went on, men were explaining more than ever about themselves.
Smith, who is a personal trainer now, really caught Adams off guard, but she was there to hear his story. He talked about how he had an eating disorder for over 15 years!

Smith told Adams, “The life I’ve lived is different than you might assume. I found out what girls were when I was 15. I realized they don’t like the fat kid. So I stopped eating. I started working out all the time, lost like 70 pounds, and had bulimia for 10 years when I was in my 20s. It’s hard to hide something for so long. I kept it from everybody.” He talked about how his sister was the one to help hi, through it. “She saved my life. I’m finally at a place now where I feel safe and comfortable with the people that I live and work with. I care a great deal about this. It’s just hard for me to let it out.”
Adams was shocked to hear him talk about this, but she said that she knew he had been holding back some things and felt that after this chat, they were much closer and he changed completely.
“The things he was trying to not bring to the surface, they were big conversations, and I think that’s why he was holding back so much. I think once he finally opened up, he was just a completely different person. It was like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. It did take us a hot minute to get there. I knew there was so much more to him.”
These serious conversations are happening a lot more on this season and it is great to see the men talking to her about bigger problems. Will she pick Ben in the end now that he has opened up to her? We will just have to wait and see.
