NFL star Antonio Brown, who is best known for playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has reportedly been suspended from the team on the grounds that he had lied about his Covid-19 vaccination status.

According to reports, it is alleged that Antonio had purchased a false vaccination card because he was concerned about the impact that the vaccine could have had on his body.
But without having such a card, his career would most likely have been over unless a medical exemption was accepted, as many states and stadiums require vaccination.
In an official statement, the NFL said: “The health and safety of players and personnel is our top priority. The NFL-NFLPA jointly reinforce their commitment and further emphasise the importance of strict adherence to the protocols.”
But Antonio is not the only one accused of flouting Covid protocols. Two other players Mike Edwards and John Franklin III, have also allegedly conducted breaches. And yet, the decision to suspend has caused controversy in light of the following reasons.
First of all, Antonio’s legal team have stressed that the star has been vaccinated. Therefore, if this is the case, then he will be able to overturn this on appeal.
Secondly, if it turns out that he is not vaccinated, then there could be legal trouble, given that Antonio would have been making false representations during a medical matter.
Nevertheless, his attorney Sean Burstyn had this to say: “Mr Brown confirmed to me that he was vaccinated and, if a booster eventually becomes advisable, he’ll be happy to air it live on TV.”
This story has shown the danger that will emerge if people do not want to get vaccinated. If freedom of choice is not going to be allowed, then there is a danger that a black market could emerge where false documents are exchanged.
Such a move is not going to foster any confidence within the population that may be unsure about whether vaccination is the way out of the pandemic.
