‘Survivor 42’ spoilers find that 90% of viewers can say they now know how it is to be blindsided- because we all watched Maryanne Oketch out-master the master and send odds-on favorite , Omar Zaheer packing. And she did it all so elegantly from her position on the bottom.
Omar’s game has been one for the books. He seemed to know exactly when to speak up and quietly assert his opinion, the seeds of which were then sewn to his favor each and every time.
He knew when to take a back seat and let the others sabotage themselves and their shaky alliances and he knew when to lie his a$$ off.

And then Maryanne caught on.
Drea Wheeler has to receive her accolades, going out in a blaze of glory during the previous episode after being double-crossed by Omar. In no uncertain terms Drea let it be known that Omar was, in fact, the mastermind.
However, minutes later, back in camp, that little nugget of information seemed to be forgotten, with Mike Turner kissing Omar’s feet in gratitude and Omar’s name being tossed around as a possible elimination, simply for the fact that there were only 6 options left.
Except then there’s Maryanne.
Languishing at the bottom since he merge, it may have been her position, looking up and across at everyone that had Maryanne’s Spidey senses tingly well before everyone else’s.
After trying but failing to get a couple of ‘big guns’ (in the form of Johnathan Young and Mike) to see what she could see- i.e. that Omar is one of the most strategic and best players to ever compete- and being told to take all the seats like a good little girl, Maryanne could have given up.
But Maryanne didn’t do that.
The smiling assassin had three things going for her 1: her extra vote 2: her co-bottom feeder, Romeo and 3: the power of being underestimated.
And Maryanne should NOT be underestimated.
She may have now lost the extra vote, (excuse me, used it to expertly removed the hugest threat from the game ) but as long as she keeps to her word , she’ll have Romeo to drag along until the bitter end- along with a hidden (please be smart and keep it that way) idol.
As for underestimated? Maryanne’s resume has just become stacked…will it be enough to open the eyes of her competitors?
Perhaps, but with the egos and vendettas she’s playing against, Maryanne may just continue to squeak through.
Maryanne may just take the cake.
