If there’s anyone that can be called the King of all Podcasts, you better believe that it’s going to be Joe Rogan. Spotify finally responded to their Joe Rogan controversy with plans to add a content advisory to all podcasts that discuss COVID-19 and vaccines.

This comes after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – who have a $25 million deal with Spotify but are yet to produce any significant content – voiced their concerns over misinformation. Here’s what you need to know.

Spotify Says It Will Add Content Advisory To Podcasts That Discuss COVID-19 Following Joe Rogan Controversy

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek announced updates to the platform’s policies, including the addition of content advisories for podcast episodes that discuss COVID-19.

“Personally, there are plenty of individuals and views on Spotify that I disagree with strongly. We know we have a critical role to play in supporting creator expression while balancing it with the safety of our users,” Ek said in a press release.  “In that role, it is important to me that we don’t take on the position of being content censor while also making sure that there are rules in place and consequences for those who violate them.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement about their concern over Covid-19 misinformation on Spotify without mentioning Rogen. The pair have a deal with Spotify worth a reported $25 million to make podcasts. The Sussexes are among Spotify’s most notable audio personalities, having announced an exclusive partnership with the service in December 2020.

But at the same time, they are yet to produce any significant content. Archewell Audio, the California-based Sussexes’ audio production company, lists just one podcast on Spotify, a “holiday special” published in December 2020. Meanwhile, Rogan has a reported $100 million deal to license his podcast to the streamer.
