Perhaps she needs to read a little more Daily Soap Dish? Chart topper Selena Gomez, who is a household name herself, recently admitted that she is “completely unaware” of what is going on in pop culture.
She also says that because she doesn’t follow any of the entertainment news outlets or blogs, she finds herself much happier that way. Here’s what she has to say.
Selena Gomez Has No Idea What Is Going On In Pop Culture
Selena’s ex Justin Bieber could easily announce that he and Hailey Bieber are expecting (they are not) but Selena wouldn’t know about it unless someone would text her directly with the news. Selena says that she is currently “completely unaware” of trending topics, but it’s something that has helped “save” her life.
She told WWD in an interview, “I’m completely unaware of, actually, what’s going on in pop culture, and that makes me really happy. And maybe that doesn’t make everybody else happy, but for me, it’s really saved my life.”
Despite the fact that Selena has grown up in front of the cameras, she says that she’s now staying away from them for the sake of her mental health.
“There was this immense amount of pressure I had growing up that I felt like I needed to be a good role model,” the former Disney Channel star said. “And then I felt like maybe that was just unrealistic, and my life became very public really quickly, and I didn’t know that I was going through my own journey with mental health at the time.”
“So, it was really confusing growing up, and once people created this narrative of my life, I realized I can’t be quiet anymore,” she continued. “I have to just address what needs to be addressed, and that’s me reclaiming my story, which is, ‘OK, yeah, I was definitely going through a hard time, and this is why, and this is what I deal with.'”
