Further information is coming to light which suggests that there were safety concerns in the run-up to the Astroworld concert, which led to a stampede that killed a reported eight people and injured countless others.

The incident had occurred during Travis Scott’s performance, which was another recent high-profile tragedy following Alec Baldwin’s gun prop incident.

While there are always questions that could be asked after the fact in order to determine whether safety protocols were followed, it looks as though there were genuine concerns, as shown by the views of the following security guard who had worked there.

Step forward, Darius Williams. The former had decided to quit on the night of the concert after he became concerned by the lack of training and staff.

During an interview with TMZ, he said: “[I] just knew that we were definitely understaffed in every sense of the word. There was probably one security guard – from what I saw – for every 500 to 1,000.

“So I knew immediately if two people decided to rush the gate, it was over with.” And looking back, the writing was on the wall. According to reports, the qualifications needed for the job were not that taxing.

In order to apply, experience was not seen as the critical part of the description. Rather, being 18 or over with a high school diploma was given precedence.

As such, people were being placed in positions that they were not necessarily suitable for. David added: “[I was being given] security-type roles, which I didn’t have any real training in.”

Furthermore, David spoke on how the staff were not clearly informed over what their duties should be. This may explain why there was criticism over the lack of initial response to the fact that there was major crowd trouble.

David’s following comments confirmed as much: “They… didn’t really tell us what we would be doing, just issued us our uniforms (and) our jackets.”

David’s comments show that there was a disregard for safety at the venue. And if any other people speak out in a similar manner, then the chances of Travis getting into major trouble are only going to increase.
