Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are proving once again that there are good people in this world. Over the weekend, the Hollywood couple has offered to match donations up to US $1 million made to the United Nations Refugee Agency in support of Ukrainian refugees.
Retweeting the UN Refugee Agency’s message about the Reynolds/Lively family’s generosity, Ryan added, “In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighboring countries. They need protection.”
Ryan Reynolds And Blake Lively Will Match $1 Million In Donations For Ukrainian Refugees
Blake also shared the information on her Instagram page. Posting a photo of a woman handing over a toddler to people on a train, presumably one that will take the little girl to safety, the Gossip Girl actress gave props to the humanitarian organization who are currently “on the ground helping the 50,000+ Ukrainians who had to flee their homes in less than 48 hours.”
Over 100,000 Ukrainians have already had no choice but to flee their homes since Russia began its invasion on Thursday. The United Nations estimates upward of 4 million Ukrainians may be displaced into neighboring countries if the war continues.
Ryan and Blake are famously philanthropic. The parents to three children have donated $2 million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
This is the least of the donations they have made, benefitting the American Civil Liberties Union, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Haiti’s earthquake recovery efforts, immigrant children’s rights, homeless youth in Canada, and even Welsh soccer player Jordan Davies and his girlfriend Kelsey Edwards after the stillbirth of their son.
Real Housewives of New York alum Bethenny Frankel is also helping the people of Ukraine during this crisis. Her nonprofit initiative, BStrong is shipping $10 million worth of aid to those affected in the Eastern European nation
“Here, we can just be very quick,” the 51-year-old philanthropist told PEOPLE magazine about the aid rollout, which includes 100,000 crisis kits filled with blankets, sleeping bags, toiletry kits, non-perishables, and drinking water. BStrong is also sending many generators out to Ukraine.
“We’re very immediate because we already have a warehouse that’s filled with $16 million in aid, Bethenny explained.
