No matter how you spin this, life is just never going to be the same for all parties involved. While Alec Baldwin has been trying his best to maintain his innocence throughout this entire ordeal, Santa Fe police have just released new footage of the actor practicing with a gun before cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on the set of “Rust” back in October. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, Alec Baldwin is seen practicing drawing his gun on the set of the Rust movie in new footage released by police. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office has released a number of files related to its investigation into the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the western film.
Santa Fe Police Release New Footage Of Alec Baldwin With A Gun Before Fatal Shooting
Hutchins was killed on the set of the movie in October last year after a prop gun Baldwin was holding was discharged. The footage with the actor brandishing the gun was reportedly taken the same day as the incident.
While being questioned, the actor pieces together what happened as the gun went off. At the time he was still apparently unaware that Hutchins would die and was shocked to learn that he had been holding a gun loaded with live ammunition. Baldwin said the gun should have been empty for a rehearsal with no filming.
“I take the gun out slowly. I turn, I cock the pistol,” Baldwin says. “Bang, it goes off. She (Hutchins) hits the ground. She goes down. He (Souza) goes down screaming. I’ve shot enough guns in my days in movies, I’ve never seen this before.”
Back in February, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies told Vanity Fair she had watched Alec Baldwin’s bombshell interview with ABC in December and was drawn to the actor’s claim that he did not pull the trigger. As it’s been reported many times by now, Halyna Hutchins died after Alec Baldwin allegedly shot and killed the cinematographer on accident while on the set of the film.
A video created by the attorneys showed an animated recreation of the shooting. The attorneys said in the video that Baldwin had turned down training for the kind of gun draw he was doing when he shot Hutchins.
“You can pull the hammer back without actually pulling the trigger and without actually locking it,” Carmack-Altwies said. “So you pull it back partway, it doesn’t lock, and then if you let it go, the firing pin can hit the primer of the bullet.”
