Alec Baldwin has defended comedian Chris Rock after the latter was slapped by Will Smith in response to his joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Alec Baldwin Speaks Out On Will Smith’s Slapping Incident-‘Alec Would’ve Slapped Him And Said It Was The Academy’s Fault’
Alec, for his part, certainly knows a thing or two when it comes to defending one’s wife. His wife, Hilaria Baldwin, was under intense negative media scrutiny as a result of her Spanish heritage scandal.
People had accused the star of lying about her Spanish origins to the point where Alec had no option but to defend her. Although he did not go as far as Will by engaging in violent behaviour, he does understand the nature of the situation.
And yet, he took the side of Chris by praising his reaction in keeping calm. In his comments, he said: “I am not reading much about how, or even if, the producers attended to Chris. But I love you, @chrisrock. And I’m sorry the Oscars turned into the Jerry Springer show.”
Despite Alec’s positive words, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, reports indicate that the Oscars have decided to undertake a ‘formal review’ which may lead to further ramifications for Will.
Secondly, despite what Alec may have to say about it all, further reports stress that Chris is not going to file charges. While that does not go on to justify what Will has done, it does demonstrate that the comedian wants to simply put this behind him.
The reaction on social media, however, was very critical towards Alec. This was on the basis that people had not forgotten his own ‘Rust’ scandal in which his prop gun incident on the movie set, resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
One person wrote: “Alec would’ve slapped him and said it was the Academy’s fault and would never take responsibility.” Alec was not present at the Oscars, which was just as well given everything that he has been involved in.
