Shannon Lee, the daughter of the legendary late martial arts legend Bruce Lee and sister of Brandon Lee wants more ‘gun safety training’ on film sets,

Of course, Brandon Lee’s story is well documented and hits close to home for Shannon. Lee was shot on the set of ‘The Crow’ in 1993 by Michael Massee during a scene where Eric Draven (Lee) breaks into Massee’s character’s apartment. Lee later died on the operating table during emergency surgery. Massee took a long sabbatical from acting after the incident and was deeply traumatized.

Now Shannon Lee has spoken out about Alec Baldwin’s incident calling for more training during the Asian World Film Festival in Los Angeles.

“I think that mandatory gun safety training [should be required] for the actor so that they can check the guns themselves and know how to use them appropriately,” Lee told AFP, “and so that they can keep others safe.”

Brandon was just 28 years old when he was shot and killed under similar circumstances to that of Halyna Hutchins’ onset of ‘Rust’.

Shannon is understandably upset and said that Hollywood’s gun safety standards are so soft. “It shouldn’t happen again,” suggesting that her brother’s death should have been the last of it’s kind.

While Shannon is angry with the standards practiced, she feels for Alec Baldwin and what he’s going through.

“I felt sorry for Michael Massee, I felt really sorry, because it is a horrible thing to cause someone else to die. And I also feel sorry for Alec Baldwin. It’s really tough what he’s going through — he has to take care of himself,” she said.

As of now, police are still investigating Hutchins’ death and criminal charges aren’t off the table. For Shannon Lee, I think many people agree with her. Too many actors who are either against guns or have no gun training, need to be trained. Plus, why are they even making films with guns if they don’t like them? It’s an odd scenario, but Hutchins’ death definitely could and should have been avoided!
