British Royal News finds that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were surrounded by stars in London last night as they attended the BAFTA’s. Kate and William were sitting on the front row for the awards bash, and they also had to sit through some awkward moments on an evening that many of the stars spoke out about the lack of diversity.
The Duchess wowed those in attendance as she wore a stunning gown, which was a custom-made Alexander McQueen number. She last wore the outfit in 2012 for a State Dinner in Malaysia. William also said a few words during the show, where he said that there was a review into how the nominations are decided.
British Royal News: Awkward Moment For Royals
The night wasn’t without controversy, with the most notable moment coming during the acceptance speech for the best supporting actor. Brad Pitt won the award for his role in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Pitt wasn’t in attendance, which meant that co-star Margot Robbie accepted on his behalf.
Pitt missed the awards ceremony due to family commitments, but he did give Robbie a note to read out should he have won. Robbie said that Pitt was going to name his award Harry after the prince. She then went on to say that he was naming it Harry because like the royal, he will also be spending his time in the States. William and Kate looked on nervously, but smiled and clapped as Robbie made her exit.
British Royal News: Award Winners
Pitt wasn’t the only big winner of the night, as Sam Mendes’ film 1917 won a host of awards. The instant-classic won the awards for Best Film, Best British Film and Special Visual Effects. There was also success for Joaquin Phoenix, who picked up the award for Best Actor.
Renee Zellweger won the award for Best Actress, while the accolade for Rising Star was given to Michael Ward. Renee Zellweger won the award for Best Supporting Actress, while Parasite won the award for Foreign Language Film.
