A few years ago on Riverdale we met Ryan Grantham’s character, Jeffrey Augustine, the young kid who, at least in the plot accidentally murdered Luke Perry’s character, Fred Andrews, but little did we know how much that art was shaping up to imitate life. Obviously, the show was shot before any of this happened and no one had any idea what Grantham was planning.
Especially his poor Mother who sat at their piano, completely unsuspecting as her own son came up behind her with a loaded gun and ended her life. This happened in 2019, and in 2020, Grantham received his life sentence for her murder. Originally, his lawyer, Chris Johnson was concerned about the 25 year old receiving such a sentence because he thought he might be moved to a maximum security prison where, according to Johnson, he would be “physically, psychologically, and sexually intimidated” due to his small stature.
Riverdale’s Ryan Grantham eaten alive by guilt in prison hospital
It seems the law has seen Johnson’s point though, and is allowing Grantham to serve his sentence in a prison hospital in British Columbia while they decide where he will ultimately end up. He is receiving treatment from both a psychologist and a psychiatrist. He says that he has gained some insight and knows why he did what he did to his mother and has a lot of regrets about what happened.
The good thing is, Grantham seems to be taking his treatment seriously and ultimately hopes to be a contributing member of society one day. “He realizes that he has a lot of personal work to do, but he’s dedicating himself to that.” says his attorney.
It’s a real shame he couldn’t have realized that sooner. The terms of his sentence state that he will be ineligible for parole for the first 14 years of his sentence. So he will be spending the next 14 years behind bars with no hope of release.
There has been no word on what this insight is, but he if he is receiving psychological and psychiatric treatment for the guilt after committing such an act, you can bet that the act of existing day to day is overwhelming. That’s not a call to sympathy, that is just a fact. Grantham killed the one person that would have been on his side no matter what, and now he fully realizes that. We’ll keep an eye on this. Stay tuned!!!
