‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star, Kathy Hilton is universally loved by reality TV viewers for her out-of-touch yet strangely relatable “gaps” in basic skills and knowledge.
However, Kathy’s arguably more famous daughter, rich kid of Beverly Hills socialite, Paris Hilton hasn’t always had the same blind love for her parents.
This stemmed from Kathy and husband Rick Hilton having Paris “kidnapped” in the middle of the night and sent to a reform boarding school.
‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Star Kathy Hilton Felt “Ashamed” After Finally Watching Daughter, Paris Hilton’s Documentary
From Kathy’s point of view, she had run out of options and was terrified of Paris’ demise. The emotional toll of worrying about her minor daughter running wild on the party scene with other celebutantes like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears and pre-fame Kim Kardashian “forced” Kathy into a corner and Paris’ parents decided to send Paris away.
Being taken from her home and the alleged physical and emotional abuse Paris endured is detailed in her 2020 YouTube documentary, This Is Paris.
While droves of people tuned in to watch, one specific person who couldn’t bring herself to watch the expose: Paris’ mom herself.
Recently this has changed and Kathy opened up to Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show, Andy Cohen Live about how difficult it was to watch but why she finally did.
Kathy told Andy that Paris finally persuaded her to do so. “She said to me, ‘It’s very important to me, mommy, that you watch this.’” Kathy described how she and Paris held hands while watching the documentary together and could feel Paris was “relieved and happy” that she was finally able to have her mother hear her story.
Kathy, however, was anything but relieved or happy.
Reliving Paris’ wild days was tough for Kathy. She explained to Andy, “A lot of people understood that … we were trying to save Paris. She was sneaking out and sometimes didn’t come back home for three days. Not going to school.” Upon realizing Paris was a master escape artist, Kathy described the feeling of helplessness. “I’m literally saying to myself, ‘What do we do? Move to Mars?’”
However, Paris’ “bad girl” days wasn’t the worst of it. Kathy revealed to Andy that watching the documentary put her into a “depression” and left her feeling “ashamed.”
Hopefully, now that everything is out in the open and both sides have been heard, Kathy and Paris can heal their relationship. By the look of how Kathy and Paris planned Paris’ recent nuptials together, the mother and daughter duo is well on the way.
