Ilhan Omar has blasted Republican Lauren Boebert’s Islamophobic comments following the latter’s speech.
Ilhan Omar Slams Republican Lauren Boebert’s Made Up Islamophobic Story-‘Anti-Muslim Bigotry Isn’t Funny’
During the course of an event, Lauren spoke about an alleged conversation that took place within the presence of Ilhan while they were in an elevator.
And given that this conversation is clearly showcasing bigoted views, it is important to establish whether it did, in fact, occur. After all, it raises concerns about the integrity of senior public officials.
According to Lauren, the conversation included the following words: “So I was getting into an elevator with one of my staffers.
“And I see a Capitol Police officer running hurriedly to the elevator. I look to my left, and there she is, Ilhan Omar. And I said, well, she doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine.”
While those comments may have resonated with certain right-wing groups within the Republican party, IIhan was outraged by what she believed to be inciteful behaviour.
But much more than that, she accused Lauren of making up this story in order to garner political clout. In response, IIhan stated: “This whole story is made up. Sad she thinks bigotry gets her clout.
“Anti-Muslim bigotry isn’t funny & shouldn’t be normalized.” The response on social media towards Lauren’s comments was one of condemnation.
Regardless of whether the conversation had occurred or not, many people could not fathom why Lauren would recount such a story. After all, it does next to nothing in tackling Islamophobia, nor does it add anything to the political discourse.
One person on Twitter wrote: “Boebert is using undeniable bigotry to play to the MAGA base, and it’s horrifying that this is what seems to work.”
While another stated: “Lauren Boebert must be censured and removed from her committee positions.” Lauren’s comments have certainly opened up a can of worms.
Time will tell whether Lauren’s remarks will have any further repercussions. But given what we have seen so far, this backlash looks to be the start of things to come going forward.
