Windsor Castle it is, then. There’s a new report that suggests Queen Elizabeth is unlikely to spend another night at Buckingham Palace, despite the royal family’s effort to renovate the palace to a tune of $500 million. Keep reading for everything you need to know.

While Queen Elizabeth certainly has a lot of properties that she spends time at throughout different times of the year, she has called Windsor Castle home since the beginning of the global pandemic that has been COVID-19.

And because she’s been spending so much time at Windsor, there’s speculation that she may never return to Buckingham Palace or at least in a full-time capacity. At least this is what royal expert Richard Kay believes.

Kay wrote for the Daily Mail: “Staff have been told that the castle will be the Queen’s permanent home (barring Christmas holidays at Sandringham and summers in Balmoral) and that while she will return to work at Buckingham Palace, it is unlikely she will ever spend another night there.”

Under this system, the Queen could travel to Buckingham Palace to use it as her administrative base, before returning home to Windsor.

Buckingham Palace is undergoing a huge renovation at the moment, which is expected to cost some $500 million and take several more years to complete.

There are 775 rooms in the palace, including 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms and 92 offices. There are also 78 bathrooms in the building. So far Queen Elizabeth herself has not made any comments about the matter.
