Queen Camilla visited Battersea Dogs and Cats Home recently to unveil a sprawling new dog garden at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
The Garden Was Designed By Chelsea Flower Show Gardening Expert, Monty Don
The garden was designed by Chelsea Flower Show gardening expert, Monty Don. Camilla was delighted to be surrounded by adorable puppies and greeted by several rescue pups upon her arrival at the shelter.
Camilla observed that the dog garden is a dog’s dream playground as it was created to feature everything a dog loves. The garden was donated to the animal shelter to provide the dogs with a fun place to run and play.
When she went outside to the patio, she saw the name of her canine companion engraved onto the brickwork.
Camilla showed the pups her undivided attention as they reciprocated her warm affections. As she was petting a little white dog, the precious pooch jumped up to lick her hand.
Some of the pups had formed a line as they patiently waited. They waited for their turn to receive some pets and nuzzles. She also took a tour around the garden, which features shady spots for dogs to cool down from the sun and take a peaceful snooze.
The garden also has sensory elements to help the dogs decompress from the shelter environment and play in a safe, natural setting.
There are also trees and a small pond for the dogs to wade in. Camilla rescued a Jack-Russell cross, Moley, from Battersea earlier this year.
Camilla Adopted New Rescue Pup, Moley, From Battersea In February
At the time, Camilla shared the news with Susan Mason, a partially sighted woman, at the Beaney House of Art & Knowledge in February. A sweet service dog accompanied her; “I’ve just got a new puppy, he’s eight weeks old.”
She continued,
“You may well ask, a bit of everything. It’s a rescue dog. It’s called Moley. The newest addition to the family was named so because he apparently looks like a mole.”
Moley had been set to join the Queen on her outing to Battersea. However, the blazing heat meant that the little pup would be far more comfortable at home.
In lieu of Moley’s irresistibly cute presence, the royal family released a new portrait of Camilla with Moley. She is seen holding the dog in her arms with a huge smile on her face.
The Queen adopted Beth in August 2011 from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, and she welcomed Bluebell the following year.
Unfortunately, Beth passed away in November last year. However, Bluebell remains a beloved member of the royal household.
Camilla adopted Moley this February. The Queen has been a patron of Battersea since 2017. Camilla had to hold herself back from adopting another rescue pup from the shelter.
She was charmed by all the dogs she met during her visit. Her Majesty took a special shine to one pooch in particular, Dipsy, who was her favorite breed, a Jack Russell terrier.
Camilla was informed that the pup has already found a happy home with one of the charity’s dedicated staff members.
As for the dog garden, it’s heartwarming to see that the dogs at Battersea now have a safe place to roam free, smell the grass, and bask in the sun.
