King Charles is heavy-hearted over the stepson of Prince William and Prince Harry’s childhood nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, being killed in the recent New Orleans terror attack.
Edward Pettifer Was One Of The Confirmed Victims
Edward Pettifer, the stepson of former royal nanny Alexandria, “Tiggy” Legge Bourke, was confirmed as one of the fourteen victims killed in the shocking New Year’s ISIS attack. He was from Chelsea, London, and was only thirty-one years old.
Edward was the oldest son of Charles Pettifer, who was an ex-Coldstream Guards Officer, and Camilla Wyatt. He lived with his mother and brother, Harry, in Chelsea.
Like his stepmother, he loved to fish and ski and attended Stowe School, a prestigious boarding school in Buckinghamshire.
The young man was killed after Shamsud Din Jabbar, a forty-two-year-old Texas resident, drove his rental truck through a large crowd of people in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.
The vehicle continued for three blocks, plowing through the crowds of innocent bystanders as they screamed in horror. He finally crashed and came to a near stop. The man left the truck and was subsequently killed during a shootout with the police.
“We heard shots and saw people running past the window,”
Said Steve Hyde, a British visitor who, like everyone else, was there to celebrate the dawn of the new year.
“Then, the sirens started. I’m heartbroken. I love this city.”
An FBI official said the attack was premeditated as an “evil act of terrorism” and that Jabbar was “100 percent influenced by ISIS.”
King Charles is said to have been in contact with the Pettifer family after Pettifer’s tragic death. His stepmother, Tiggy Legge Bourke, has maintained a close relationship with both the Prince of Wales and Prince Harry since their childhood.
The Former Nanny Gave William And Harry Support When Princess Diana Died
Legge-Bourke was their nanny between 1993 and 1999. William is the godfather to her younger son, Tom, and Prince Harry is the godfather to her other son, Fred.
The former nanny was often pictured with Charles throughout the years, as she worked as a trusted aide for him and the royals and gave William and Harry much support when their mother, Princess Diana, died.
Legge-Bourke now runs a bed and breakfast at her family home, where she teaches guests fly-fishing. Even before she worked for the royal family, she and her family were closely associated with them.
Her father once served in the Royal Horse Guards, and her mother became a lady-in-waiting for Princess Anne in 1987. Her brother, Harry Legge-Bourke, had been Page of Honour to the deceased Queen Elizabeth II from 1985 to 1987.
Before working with the royal family, she opened her own pre-school in Battersea called Mrs. Tiggywinkle’s.
Legge Bourke’s son, Tom, was a page boy at Prince William and Princess Kate’s wedding in April 2011. Legge-Bourke is also godmother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son, Archie.
Pettifer’s family made a statement,
“The entire family is devastated at the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to so many.”
They added,
“We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their family members due to this terrible attack.”
