Harry’s Plans to Become a US Citizen Could Be Squashed
However, it appears that his plans could be squashed if Judge Carl J. Nichols rules against him. The Department of Homeland Security is under pressure from The Heritage Foundation to release Harry’s immigration files for examination to see if he disclosed drug use on his immigration form.
The Duke of Sussex moved to The United States in January 2020. Harry revealed in his tell-all memoir, “Spare,” that he used marijuana, cocaine, and magic mushrooms to handle the loss of his mother, Princess Diana.
Speculation is that Harry may have been shown favorable treatment by government officials because of his royal status. If Harry is dishonest, it could lead to his visa being revoked.
Applying for a Visa in the United States requires honest answers from the claimant. The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Centre for Freedom’s administrator, Nile Gardiner, advises that,
“A judge has the final say on whether the American public has the right to see whether the DHS afforded Prince Harry special treatment. He can no longer hide behind his liberal elite allies in the Biden administration.”
The court case will commence on February 23rd. The Department of Homeland Security aims to have the case thrown out. However, Harry’s status in the US would be revealed if the court had the records.
The records would disclose what documents Harry used to come to the US, his admission status, and immigration or non-immigration benefits that he was trying to obtain.
Immigration Records Are Typically Kept Private
The typical position of the court is that immigration records should be private. The case is only presented because Harry made an enormous profit from lying about his drug use on the immigration form.
He lied on the form for fear that he wouldn’t get into the US if Harry told the truth, and he wrote “Spare,” from which he profited significantly. Some would say he even boasted about his drug use.
Harry made these admissions in his book, knowing the risks involved. He not only admitted to the drug use, he put it in writing, and it could also negatively affect his immigration status. He knew this because he had prominent US and UK legal teams.
Heritage is seeking all records within Harry’s registration file. It should include benefits, records, and requests for waivers.
Samuel Dewey, the Heritage Foundation legal representative, rationalized,
“It could be well that he ticked the yes box, in which case, he would need a waiver to be granted a visa. We are simply asking who granted that waiver.”
Of course, Harry’s lawyers claim that releasing the records is an invasion of privacy. The case will focus on whether the court will allow Harry to remain in the US.
Will Reeve interviewed Harry on “Good Morning America” this past week, and when asked if he would become an American citizen, he replied that he was considering it. Still, it wasn’t top of mind on his list of priorities.
