Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, which first aired in the U.S. on March 7, was called out among the five nominees of the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series Or Special category when the noms were announced this week. Here’s what you need to know.
As many fans know, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah was watched by more than 17 million people on the night that it was aired, and by 50 million people worldwide.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Oprah Interview Just Got An Emmy Nomination
During the two-hour special, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex went on the record about the many falsehoods that have been written and said about them in the press.
They also shared new insights about the British Royal Family and suggested that there might be a royal racist behind closed doors.
If that weren’t enough, Meghan said that she experienced suicidal thoughts while she was pregnant in 2019, while Prince Harry said that that his father Prince Charles had cut him off both financially and emotionally.
Meghan also told Oprah there were several conversations about the skin color of her future child while she was still pregnant.
She said, “In those months, when I was pregnant, all around this same time, we had in tandem the conversation of he won’t be given security, he won’t be given a title … and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin will be when he’s born.”
In their Emmy category, Harry, Meghan, and Oprah are in the running against My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell, and Vice.
