Prince George is gradually being eased into royal life. The royal family plays a significant role in the Festival of Remembrance.
According to the Daily Mail,
“The event is organized by the Royal British Legion. The King was made a patron of the charity last year.”
At the event, Catherine wore a classy black dress with a white collar from Alessandra Rich. She accessorized with an HMS Glasgow brooch and earrings that once belonged to the late Queen.
Kate’s husband, Prince William, was absent from the event as he’s in Brazil for the Earthshot Prize Awards. Meanwhile, King Charles arrived with Queen Camilla.
The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and his wife, Lady Victoria Starmer, were also in attendance, as were the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
This year’s Festival of Remembrance marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Singers Rod Stewart and Sam Ryder performed.
Hannah Waddingham, star of Ted Lasso, also hosted the festival. Today also marked the 25th anniversary of the UK government lifting the ban on gay, lesbian, and bisexual personnel serving in the Armed Forces.
Additionally, emotional videos of veterans speaking about their military experiences and paying tribute to fallen soldiers.
The Remembrance Festival will air tonight on the BBC in Britain. The broadcaster announced,
“Special focus will be given to the resilience and strength of military children who have faced bereavement.”
The Princess of Wales is connected to the cause by her Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood. On Sunday, Kate will also lead attendees in an observance at The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The Late Queen opened the National Memorial Arboretum.
Catherine will lay a wreath in honor of members of the Armed Forces who lost their lives in battle.
She will also view the newly dedicated names on the Armed Forces Memorial before meeting the veterans in attendance.
The Arboretum’s expedition, “Letters From The Frontline,” will feature letters written by Armed Forces personnel and their families during the final months of the Second World War.
The Princess of Wales will also meet the children of serving military personnel currently on deployment.
The Daily Mail states that
“The National Memorial Arboretum was opened by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2007 and is designed in such a way that at precisely 11:00 on November 11, a shaft of light falls on the bronze wreath in its center.”
The service will also feature a special poem by Arji Manuelpillai, written about the bonds, connections, and experiences of those who serve in combat.
The veterans in attendance at the event include those who helped to plan D-Day. Some of these military vets also survived being prisoners of war.
Prince George was last seen in public with William, Kate, and his sister, Princess Charlotte, to watch Wimbledon’s men’s final in July.
Kate and William want to make sure their son, Prince George, has a balanced life with school and family, and also takes part in royal events when appropriate to prepare for when he eventually becomes King.
