Does this mean things are finally going back to the way things were? Maybe. Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles – both fully vaccinated from COVID-19 – have landed in Jordan for the start of their Middle East tour.
The couple left the UK on Sunday, Charles’ birthday, after attending the national remembrance service at the Cenotaph and have been spending private time in Jordan. Here’s what you need to know.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles Kick Off Their First International Tour In Months
According to reports, Charles and Camilla have been asked by the government to visit the Middle East country and will also tour Egypt over the next four days. The couple have visited before and this latest trip emphasises how important the links between the UK and Jordan are for the British government, particularly for security cooperation.
Touring Elijah’s Hill, the couple saw excavations around the narrow muddy river near the place where John the Baptist and Jesus met for the cleansing ritual, and they dipped their fingers in the water.
They also visited the site on the river Jordan where Jesus is believed to have been baptised, at the start of the first overseas tour by senior British royals since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The British Embassy said last month that the visit was aimed at shoring up a century of “strong bilateral relations.”
Now, whether or not Prince William and Kate Middleton will soon embark on their first international tour this year remains to be seen. Watch this space.
