Prince Andrew really does think pretty highly of himself, now doesn’t he? Apparently, Prince Andrew is flexing his royal strength behind the scenes as there’s a new report that says he is demanding a “trial by jury’ in his sexual assault case. Here’s what you need to know.
The Duke of York, who is fighting to clear his name, has also suggested that the case be dismissed as the New York court has no jurisdiction over it. So far his team has mounted a vigorous defense of his actions and strongly denied the claims of sexual assault made by Virginia Giuffre. Prince Andrew’s lawyers wrote that he “hereby demands a trial by jury on all causes of action asserted in the Complaint.”
Prince Andrew Thinks He Has A Chance Of Beating Virginia Giuffre In Her Lawsuit
Earlier this month, it was reported that Judge Lewis A Kaplan last week heard arguments over a motion to dismiss the civil sex lawsuit brought against the Queen’s son by Virginia Giuffre. A lawyer for the Duke of York – who has denied all allegations – argued the claim for damages “is unfair, it is unjust, it should be dismissed.”
However, Prince Andrew’s legal team argued during a video conference that Ms. Giuffre waived her right to sue the Duke when she signed a $500,000 settlement agreement with convicted sex offender Epstein in 2009.
During the hearing, the Prince’s lawyer said: “It’s unquestionable that Prince Andrew could have been sued in the 2009 Florida action. He was not. And therefore he was a ‘potential defendant’ and a release under the 2009 settlement agreement by its unambiguous terms.”
If that weren’t enough, Prince Andrew also says he has no knowledge of the infamous photograph of him and Virginia Giuffre at the London home of Ghislaine Maxwell.
