Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s $100 million deal with Netflix has come under fire after claims that the network may lose some business from the UK.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s $100 Million Netflix Deal Faces Uncertainty After The Network Loses Huge Amounts Of Money
News about this deal first came to light on the back end of 2020. And yet, ever since that moment, no content has actually been released.
While this could be explained because the pandemic has not helped scheduling, coupled with the fact that the pair did welcome their new child Lilibet, the very fact of the matter is that something was expected to have been released.
The failure to do so has cast the deal into doubt, especially since reports indicate that Netflix had the lowest number of subscribers across the globe for the first time since 2010.
All of this could allegedly cost the network around £90m annually, with a reported 750,000 subscribers having left the platform. And that does not look for very good reading for the couple.
Richard Eden, who happens to be an editor for the Daily Mail, had this to say: “It’s not just #Spotify that’s still waiting for any content from Prince Harry and #Meghan. #royal.”
The response on social media was very mixed. A certain subset of people thought that the couple were out of order by virtue of the amount of money they had apparently been given to do the project.
Meanwhile, others made a distinction between the couple and the network who may ultimately have authority over when the release date should be.
One person on Twitter wrote: “Netflix hire someone to actually get this Pearl moving. Wasn’t this something back in 2018 & she seeked helped from DF & here we are 2022.
“All ideas …this couple are pathetic. We seen the standard of work ‘ The Bench’ & the me you don’t see.” There is clearly a lot of anticipation in the run-up to this project, but whether it delivers is anyone’s guess.
With that in mind, the only thing that fans can do is wait patiently until further news emerges as to the release date. Time will tell whether the deal will deliver what it promised to do.
