Paris Hilton wants her fans to know that the Paris they see in front of the cameras is not necessarily the same Paris that she is behind closed doors. The reality television star, fashion icon, author, part time DJ, socialite and celebrity opens up about her past and her childhood trauma in a new YouTube original. Here’s what she has to say.

In her new documentary, directed by Emmy-winner Alexandra Dean, it teases how the blonde beauty will “embark on a journey of healing and reflection, reclaiming her true identity along the way.”

“I feel like the whole world thinks they know me,” she describes. “No one really knows who I am… I don’t even know who I am sometimes. I didn’t use to be that way.”

The 39-year-old socialite also hints that how a trauma she suffered in her childhood ended up shaping her life and the person that she is today. However, Paris says she sometimes feels as though she has to play a character that she’s not in front of the cameras. “Something happened in my childhood that I’ve never talked about with anyone,” Paris says.

“But I couldn’t tell you guys, because every time I tried, I would get punished by them,” she continued. “I still have nightmares about it. The only thing that saved my sanity was thinking about who I wanted to become when I got out of there. I just created this brand and this persona and this character, and I’ve been stuck with her ever since.”

This is Paris premieres on September 14th on Paris’ YouTube Channel. The documentary also features commentary from Paris’ mother Kathy Hilton and her sister, Nicky Hilton.
