Outrage As Senior Police Officers Allegedly Advised Victims To Encourage Their Stalkers To Attack Them To Gather Evidence

Senior officers advised a woman to ‘encourage her stalker to attack her’ so they could apprehend him, victims allege.

Victims have spoken out about their poor treatment by police. The Suzy Lamplugh Trust says that police forces across England and Wales are showing a ‘disturbing pattern’ of ignoring victims ‘at every stage of their ordeal.’

The National Stalking Consortium, which comprises of activists and organisations, says that police ‘are failing to identify perpetrators.’ One such example was that of a 50-year-old victim, who had to endure an ex-employee becoming fixated, stalked her for four years.

An unnamed police force told the victim, “It’s freedom of speech; he can say whatever he wants,” despite her having a Stalking Protection Order preventing him from mentioning her on social media.

The woman said that an officer was ‘spoken to’ after she complained that she was told to encourage her stalker to attack her in order to get him arrested.

In addition, she also said: “Another officer said, “I’m not being funny, but if I want somebody out of my life, I just block them.” Much in the same way, another woman who was stalked for 10 years by a stranger said dealing with the police ’caused me more harm than the years of stalking.’

Her following comments confirmed as much: “When I was told you are going to have to gather more evidence, I was left in a black hole, which is really scary when you’re starting to live your life with hyper vigilance.”

The people on social media were outraged by this revelation. And in the process of doing so, they also highlighted their own similar experiences as testament to that. One person wrote: “I was told similar ‘until they physically hurt you we can’t do anything’ – oh, ok den.”

Hopefully, changes can be made to prevent victims like this from suffering again. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
