Olivia Jade Addresses College Admission Scandal To Jada Pinkett Smith After Lori Loughlin Imprisonment

On the Facebook Red Table talks, Olivia Jade got interviewed about the college admissions scandal that her parents, Lori Laughlin and Massimo Giannulli, got involved in.

Jada Pinkett Smith went really easy on Olivia, probably because it was her parents who did most of the dirty work, however Gammy, the other host of the show, was not having it and was actually trying to ask Olivia some tough questions, but Jada wasn’t having it and I guess she outranks her, so Olivia got some softball questions.

Youtube – Olivia Jade addresses privilege

Olivia said that when she filled out her college applications, she put down all of her info about being an online influencer, but that when she got back her college applications, that someone had done some fantastic editing and written her up an entire resume about how she had participated in all of these rowing meets and how she was some star rower.

She said that her academics were good, and that she did work hard in high school, but obviously they weren’t good enough to get her an academic scholarship of any kind.

She said her parents trusted what they thought was a college counselor, and literally paid this man thousands in order to get Olivia and her sister in the school’s system as ‘rowing team’ members, without ever having done any of the work involved to be on the team.

Youtube – No, they didn’t have any intention of joining either.

Thing is, it wasn’t paying money to the school that got Lori and Massimo busted, it was paying money to get their daughters into the athletic system that did it. If you make a donation to the school in exchange for admission then it’s usually hand-waved away and someone puts up a library or something in your name and your kid gets to attend the college, maybe not for free, but they do get to attend.

But Lori, and especially Massimo, wanted to game the system and get their kids athletic scholarships, that’s what got them busted.

Olivia didn’t really try to defend herself either, she said that neither her, her sister Bella, nor her parents, thought that it was wrong and I”m guessing thought that it served the same purposes as a donation to the school.

Now, I can see Olivia Jade not realizing that was wrong, because she’s young, but Lori and Massimo… they really needed to look past their money for just half a second and realize that this was cheating on some level.

The thing that she didn’t address though, and was not asked about by Smith, was about the profiles and the profile pictures that were taken. There were pictures taken of them on rowing machines that were photoshopped into actual competition pictures, and it seems no one ever brought them up.

I guess Jada thought that the kid had suffered enough. Then again, she could always be omitting some truth to save her own skin, the interview painted it like she didn’t know that these actions were wrong and if she says that she knew anything about the pictures or what they were going to be used for then there could be a chance of prosecution against Olivia. I’m not a legal eagle, don’t quote me on that, that’s just a guess.

She also addressed her earlier comments about school and how she said she didn’t want to go and that she didn’t really care and that she only wanted to be in college for the parties and for the social scene. She says that now, after all of this backlash she realizes that it was an incredibly privleged thing to say and that she shouldn’t have said it and that she should have checked her privilege at the door with that comment.

I agree, but I also agree that her parents should have just stopped while they were ahead and let this kid attend a state school – there’s no harm in it! If they had, maybe they wouldn’t be in jail now. It’s not like the kid had no ambition, I mean, she had her own makeup and clothing line, so it’s not like she would have been working a dead-end job!

Obviously, they were blinded by the glamour, I mean, you can only accomplish so much, being a famous actress and a world famous fashion designer. No wonder they would want something better for their kids! We at DSD will keep an eye on Olivia Jade to see what she does next. Stay tuned!!!
